Synopsis: Once upon a dreary night, five desperate strangers wait in line for a last minute ticket to the final performance of Oppenheimer's sold out smash hit, Return To Hindenburg, the hottest show in town.  All they have to do is cross their fingers, be patient and wait their turn. But with more people waiting than tickets available, this is no time for patience, this is time for war. Who will triumph? Who will fail? And who will receive… The Last Return?

This new play is a searing comment on conflict, peace and the pursuit of territory at any cost.

Set/Costume Requirements:  The set is inspired by the theatre foyer of the Schaubuhne theatre in Berlin. Please follow the layout as described in the stage directions as it informs the plot. Note, this is not a site-specific play.

The characters' costumes should speak to their journeys and values. Some of the character descriptions relate to plot, others can be more fluid in their interpretation.

Bio: Sonya Kelly is an Irish Writer

Her first play, The Wheelchair on My Face, produced by Fishamble, won a Scotsman Fringe First Award in 2012 and received a Critics’ Pick in the New York Times.  Her second play, How To Keep An Alien, produced by Rough Magic won Best Production at the Dublin Fringe, 2014 and toured Brisbane, Edinburgh, London, New York, and New Zealand.  Her play, Furniture, produced by Druid Theatre premiered at the Galway International Arts Festival in 2018 and was revived for a national tour. It received an Irish Writers Guild Award for Best New Theatre Script and the Stewart Parker Award. Her second play for Druid, Once Upon A Bridge, was live streamed to 14,000 viewers during Covid restrictions. It is currently nominated for a British Writers’ Guild Award.

Sonya has participated in a number of residencies including, ADVANCE with Rough Magic, Six In The Attic with ITI, Centre Culurel in Paris, NT Studio, Smock Alley Theatre.  She was the recipient of the Phelim Donlon Playwright’s Bursary Award in 2019 has been supported by, Dublin City Council, the Arts Council of Ireland and Culture Ireland.
